Genetically-Engineered Babies With HIV-Resistant Genes

With a little genetic tweaking, homo sapiens could become naturally resistant to HIV. A gene that can disassemble the HIV virus inside its cell before it spreads to another cell lurks dormant in the body of every person infected with HIV. The problem is getting that gene to turn on and start stopping HIV in its tracks. Right now, a team of researchers at University of Alberta in Canada have been destroying HIV viruses by inserting the gene, called TRIM22, into cells. Once they figure out how to control TRIM22, the question is whether everyone should get the gene activated in their bodies at birth as a preventative measure.

While Mozilla and Microsoft fight the browser wars users just want a functional and secure browser that is very easy on resources. Personally I use Firefox and I have been using it since it was called Phoenix and we've come a long ways baby. Numerous developers have made extensions which add more features to the browser. The myriad of extensions, themes and plugins to go through may seem a chore for new users so I have compiled a list of my favorites.

It comes less than two years before China hosts the next Olympics - an event it was given after promising to improve its human rights record.
The volume of executions has meant China has invented new ways of killing, mobilising and mechanising its execution system.
A brochure acquired by Sky News reveals details of China's new execution buses now operating across the country.
Fitted with lethal injection equipment they can deliver on-the-spot executions.

Drills or Diversions?: Massive Terror Drill August 15

Is the state ready if terrorists were to attack? Starting tomorrow, emergency responders will be put to the test to find out.
The state plans to hold an mock exercise for three days simulating the explosion of a nuclear bomb planted by terrorists. The mock drill will take place at Honolulu Harbor. It's planned so that people as far away as Ewa Beach will feel the blast.
In the drill, 10,000 people will die and parts of downtown will lose all communication.
