Frustrated by press leaks about its most sensitive electronic surveillance work, the secretive National Security Agency convened an unprecedented series of off-the-record "seminars" in recent years to teach reporters about the damage caused by such leaks and to discourage reporting that could interfere with the agency's mission to spy on America's enemies.

WASHINGTON (AP) - A U-S House committee has advanced a hate crimes bill that drew support from a Houston-area Hispanic youth brutally attacked at a party last year. The House Judiciary Committee voted 20-to-14 last night for a bill to allow the U-S attorney general to help local law enforcement investigate hate crimes.

Readers of the AIM Report are accustomed to learning of huge distortions or omissions by the media. This time, the under-reported story deals with the possible end of America, as we know it. Major players are secretive and are trying to keep the media out of the loop. But that does not let the mainstream media off the hook. There is enough stonewalling, secrecy and there are plenty of telltale signs, so that any assignment editor whose curiosity is not aroused is probably in the wrong business.

WASHINGTON — The Bush administration is clamping down on scientists at the U.S. Geological Survey, the latest agency subjected to controls on research that might go against official policy. New rules require screening of all facts and interpretations by agency scientists who study everything from caribou mating to global warming. The rules apply to all scientific papers and other public documents, even minor reports or prepared talks, according to documents obtained by the Associated Press.

Despotism by definition is, dominance through threat of punishment and violence. A system of government where the ruler is an absolute dictator. America is the first of her kind. A land where its citizens threw off the shackles of oppression and established independence with government that cherishes the rights of the people.

1. Why is the United States government spending millions of dollars to track down critics of George W. Bush in the press? And why have major American universities agreed to put this technology of tyranny into the state's hands?

At the most basic level, of course, both questions are easily answered: 1) Power. 2) Money. The Bush administration wants to be able to root out—and counteract—any dissenting noises that might put a crimp in its ongoing crusade for "full spectrum dominance" of global affairs, while the august institutions of higher learning involved—the universities of Cornell, Pittsburgh and Utah—crave the federal green that keeps them in clover.

Big Brother has no time for oldthinkers. The exigencies of the conflict (We are at war with MidEast. We have always been at war with MidEast.) dictate that We act speedwise andpluscertainwise in all instances. Amerisoc requires groupthink for goodaction. We've instituted the Two-Minute Hate in schools across the nation, the young unthinkers daily declaring goodpatriotism in unison. We've removed the ungood and ungooder ideas from the vernacular to guide discussion among the proles.

So many are willing to turn Iran into a parking lot but you can't find it on a map. War has turn into America's pastime. I guess baseball is too boring. You sit on your Lay-Z-Boy and watch the fireworks from far, far away. Again, it doesn't affect you because it's just a TV show. Sooner or later King George is going to run out of grunts and the war machine will need fresh bodies. Where do you think he will get them from?
