The first high school dedicated to preparing students for the front lines in the Nation's homeland security has gone from theory to planning in Wilmington. The Project Manager for the Delaware Academy for Public Safety and Security, New Castle Attorney Thomas Little, signed a contract with Innovative Schools, a professional firm which will coordinate the mechanics of preparing the school for its eventual opening.

NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Authorities are chalking up an Immigration and Customs Enforcement SWAT Team's misunderstanding of a street address and subsequent wrongful raid as an "honest mistake."

Two members of the Orange County Sheriff's Office SWAT team took their kids to work with them on Friday -- to a raid on a drug house.

Police in riot gear intervened Wednesday when hundreds of people seeking a chance at subsidized housing grew frustrated after officials ran out of applications. Late last year, Yee Moua watched a movie at her family's home in North Minneapolis. Her husband, Vang Khang, and six young kids were safe in their beds just across the street from the neighborhood police station.

A Minnesota family was upstairs in their home early Sunday when they heard someone bust through their back door. Vang Khang's family said Vang grabbed his hunting gun to protect himself, his wife, and his six children.

Militarization is a broad term that refers to using military-style weapons, tactics, training, uniforms, and even heavy equipment by civilian police departments.

Some Knox County School Officers wrapped up a week of intense training they hope they never have to use.

 

The Virginia Tech massacre and the shooting death of Knox County School Officer Russell Kocur at Halls High School last Halloween have school officers preparing for every kind of threat. Some are even training in techniques used only in the most dangerous situations.

HENDERSONVILLE – A woman who says a police SWAT team mistakenly raided her home and put a gun to the head of one of her grandson’s friends has filed a formal complaint against the Hendersonville Police Department.
