Doctors, teachers and social workers will be told to act as informers to identify potential violent offenders for monitoring by the police and other agencies. Ministers hope that by spotting binge-drinkers, drug addicts and young gang members early before they commit serious crimes they can be placed on a national database and steered away from offending behaviour.

Imagine being a potential suspect for every crime committed in your country. That would be the logic if DNA from all of a country's citizens were stored in police DNA records, claims a report published this week by the Nuffield Council on Bioethics, which advises the UK government.

Bryant Elementary becomes the first school in the country to use new state of the art technology aimed at keeping kids safe. That's thanks to a grant from the Department of Justice. The new Raptor Scanner, is in place starting Monday. The Raptor scans the ID's of everyone who tries to pick up a child from the school and is in sync with local police departments.

All this trouble over the need for a passport for Canadians to enter the US. So much inconvenience and of course economic ruin. No need to worry. The government has a great solution to the problem they created. New high-tech drivers licences. Complete with all your personal information and fingerprints and a fancy new proximity RFID chip. Convenient. Exciting! Safe?
3,500 schools now use finger print scanners in 'Big Brother state by stealth'

As many as 3,500 schools are taking fingerprints from pupils, often without their parents' permission, a new poll revealed yesterday.
Soaring numbers require pupils to undergo biometric identity checks before they can register in the mornings, buy canteen meals and use the library.
