Mock terrorists defeated security personnel in a recent drill at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, where nuclear weapons research is conducted, federal officials said Tuesday.

The largest military training exercise in Alaska, Northern Edge 2008, begins May 5 with about 5,000 U.S. active duty, national guard, and Reserve component Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines.

Last Friday, an intruder entered a classroom in Moore Hall at Elizabeth City State University and pointed what appeared to be a gun at assistant professor Jingbin Wang. The man ordered students in Wang's American foreign policy class to line up against a wall and threatened to kill the student with the lowest grade-point average. "I was prepared to die," Wang recalled this week.

Emergency and security response personnel were tested this afternoon at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth during an exercise here and nationwide called "Operation Solid Curtain."

Now... imagine this kind of terror... a school shooting where eight people are killed and eight others wounded. That was the scenario today for a mock disaster drill in Mason. As Local 12 Reporter Jeff Hirsh shows us, the idea is to get ready for something you hope never happens.
