Mock biological terrorist attack named 'Talon Shield' studied at Fort Lee

Hundreds of emergency responders descend on Fort Lee for a mock terrorist attack today. They are there to prepare, should disaster really strike. It’s called “Talon Shield” and it is only a drill. But to those training at the army base, it's has to be as real as possible because if disaster strikes, it’s communication between all of those first responders that can make the difference between life and death.

No Child Left Behind: Military Needs Fresh Bodies For the War In Iraq

A little-known section of the No Child Left Behind Act requires that high schools give the military contact information for seniors so they can be reached for recruitment.

Students or their parents can request that the information not be released by filling out a form, and schools are required to give families the chance to do so.

While some families are fine with the military contacting their children, others are not.

MOODY AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. - The military calls its new weapon an ''active denial system,'' but that's an understatement. It's a ray gun that shoots a beam that makes people feel as if they are about to catch fire.

Apart from causing that terrifying sensation, the technology is supposed to be harmless _ a non-lethal way to get enemies to drop their weapons.

 

Pentagon abandons active-duty time limit

The Pentagon has abandoned its limit on the time a citizen-soldier can be required to serve on active duty.

A soldier could be mobilized for a 24-month stretch in Iraq or Afghanistan, then demobilized and allowed to return to civilian life, only to be mobilized a second time for as much as an additional 24 months.
