Presumed Guilty: West Covina Police Using Biometric Identification System

Police recently began using a tiny new device they hope will make a big impact on crime-fighting. The gadget, called the Automated Fingerprint Identification System, is made by South Pasadena-based Cogent Systems and is about the size of a small cell phone, said West Covina police Sgt. Bob Tolich.

Biometric data to be required upon exiting the United States

Foreign travelers will be required in the future to provide biometrics at airports when departing from the United States. Recently DHS officials testified before Congress that the department was moving forward with implementing US-VISIT biometric exit procedures at U.S. airports to improve national security. DHS plans to publish a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking before the end of calendar year 2007 outlining its plans to incorporate US-VISIT biometric exit procedures into travelers' airline check-in process. These security measures will accompany the biometrics already nescesary--fingerprints and a digital photograph--upon entering the United States.

FBI Plans Precrime Biometric Idenfication System

Tom Cruise, watch out. The FBI’s planned biometric repository upgrade will improve the system’s existing capability to store not only fingerprints but also the iris scans which pinpointed Cruise’s character in the 2002 cinema spectacle “Minority Report,” in addition to more futuristic identifiers.

3,500 schools now use finger print scanners in 'Big Brother state by stealth'


As many as 3,500 schools are taking fingerprints from pupils, often without their parents' permission, a new poll revealed yesterday.

Soaring numbers require pupils to undergo biometric identity checks before they can register in the mornings, buy canteen meals and use the library.

Physical details of all residents to be held on ID database

EVERYBODY living in the United Kingdom, including foreigners, will be required to have their biometric details recorded under the government's identity card scheme, it emerged yesterday. John Reid, the Home Secretary, announced that all UK residents, whether or not they were British citizens, would be forced to have their irises scanned and their fingerprints taken for the national database.
