M. Chossudovsky: The Destabilization Of Pakistan
Submitted by MichaelVail on Wed, 01/09/2008 - 5:59pm.
The assassination of Benazir Bhutto has created conditions which contribute to the ongoing destabilization and fragmentation of Pakistan as a Nation.
The process of US sponsored "regime change", which normally consists in the re-formation of a fresh proxy government under new leaders has been broken. Discredited in the eyes of Pakistani public opinion, General Pervez Musharaf cannot remain in the seat of political power. But at the same time, the fake elections supported by the "international community" scheduled for January 2008, even if they were to be carried out, would not be accepted as legitimate, thereby creating a political impasse.

The Pentagon is paying Lockheed Martin to try to predict insurgencies and civil unrest like the weather. It's part of a larger military effort to blend forecasting software with social science that has some counterinsurgency experts cringing.
History will judge Bush more kindly
Submitted by MichaelVail on Sun, 01/07/2007 - 2:56pm.
There seems to be a rush to judgment among present-day liberals to portray the war in Iraq as a lost cause.
A recent letter stated, "I, for one, have had quite enough of staying the course and allowing more troops to be killed." Another writer voiced the opinion that Bush's presidency would be judged poorly due to the war.
