Grand Jury Indicts DPS Trooper And CPS Worker For Sexual Assault

After listening to 63 cases, a Lubbock County Grand Jury handed down 60 indictments Tuesday evening. Those indictments could result in jail time for 58 different people including a Department of Public Safety Trooper and a Child Protective Services worker. Among the charges Tuesday were murder, sexual assault and attempted kidnapping.

Encountering the Child Snatchers, AKA, Child Protective Services

No one expects to be falsely accused of child abuse or neglect; yet bogus cases are reported daily to Child Protective Services. My own daughter falsely reported my husband for physical abuse after he refused to let her call her boyfriend one evening. The next day, CPS and the police were on our doorstep.

Foster Child Says She Had Sex With Her Caseworker

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas -- A 37-year-old former caseworker for Child Protective Services has been charged with having sex multiple times with a teenage girl he supervised. Fredrick Shavers remained jailed Saturday, facing six charges that he had sex with the girl over a two-year period. Police said the girl, now 17, told them she was 15 when the relationship began and that they sometimes had sex in front of her infant son.

A child's nightmare: When the system fails

It was supposed to be a safe place, and the high-end, suburban home sure looked that way. But what happened inside forever traumatized the life of one 6-year-old girl.

“She will continue to be traumatized by this event,” attorney Jeff Marsh said.

Foster home had red flags

AUSTIN – Two private foster-care contractors approved a DeSoto couple as foster parents last year, unaware that police had been dispatched to their home about a dozen times to investigate disturbances, The Dallas Morning News has learned.

Six-year-old foster child Katherine Frances was fatally body-slammed onto a bedroom floor at the home last month, DeSoto police said.

Please help me get my little daughter back

On April 3, 2005, Sabrina Slyter was born to Nancy Hey. She weighed 7 lb. 4 oz. Mother and baby were released from the hospital on April 5, 2005. On April 8, 2005, Ms. Hey took Sabrina to the pediatrician for a regular post-birth follow-up. The baby had lost weight (from 7lb. 4oz. to 6lb. 12oz.) so the pediatrician recommended supplementation with formula (Ms. Hey was nursing) and a follow-up visit several days later. Ms. Hey saw the pediatrician three more times after that initial visit. Although Sabrina’s weight only dropped to 6 lb. 10 oz., she did not exhibit a sustained weight gain. As a result, on that third visit, the doctor who saw Ms. Hey and Sabrina indicated that Sabrina’s weight loss and lack of sustained weight gain was more significant than Ms. Hey had been led to believe and he instructed Ms. Hey to admit Sabrina to the hospital.
