Wal-Mart aims for RFID in every North American store

Although Wal-Mart is traditionally viewed as a logistics leader and a pioneer in RFID adoption, only 975 of its stores currently utilize the technology. Frustrated by losing sales due to misplaced inventory, the firm is now dead set on rolling out RFID gear into every single North American store, and soon.

CCTV cameras that detect potential offenders and then "tail" them are being tested in British shopping centres. The £7,000 "Bug" is fitted with a ring of eight cameras that gives a panoramic view of a street. The footage is scanned by sophisticated software which can identify 50 behaviour traits that indicate whether somebody is acting or loitering in a suspicious manner. When a suspect is spotted, a ninth camera automatically locks onto them and follows their movements.

feel compelled to write regarding the identity card. I think I will annoy quite a few people with my views but I think in the long run it will be more cost-efficient both for the government and for people; if you have nothing to hide, what's the problem?
I have for a long time joked at work that we should, like many pets, be microchipped: sounds harsh, I know, but think of the positives before you knock the idea.
