MCLEAN, Va., Oct. 4 (UPI) -- Northrop Grumman said Wednesday it has won a new U.S. Defense Department contract to help fight the war on drugs.
The company said it had been "awarded an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity -- IDIQ -- contract by the U.S. Department of Defense to provide technology development application for new products and services to defense and federal civilian agencies, state and local authorities, and partner nations engaged in counter-drug and counter-narco-terrorism -- CNT -- operations."
Northrop Grumman said it was "one of five companies that will compete for task orders under this IDIQ contract. The contract, administered by the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command, Huntsville, Ala., has a total program ceiling of $15 billion over five years."
"Northrop Grumman's broad technical expertise will enable the company to deliver solutions that meet the current and future needs of the Counter-Narco-terrorism Technology Program Office and protect U.S. national security and coalition partner interests," said Wood Parker, president of Northrop Grumman Information Technology's Intelligence group. "The company supports the government's efforts to rapidly respond to the global narco-terrorism threat."
Northrop Grumman said the contract "includes training, operations and logistics support to help combat narco-terrorism threats."
"Northrop Grumman's counter-narco-terrorism global support team will provide global operational expertise, rapid response technology solutions, and advanced research and development methodologies to help the Counter-Narco-terrorism Technology Program Office disrupt, deter, and deny narco-terrorist threats to the United States and its coalition partners," the company said.
"The team will also leverage industry, academia and government laboratories to enhance CNT missions as defined by the combatant commands and other government agencies," it said.
Northrop Grumman said its "teammates on this contract include 38 large and small businesses."
