MILLIONS of Londoners are being used as guinea-pigs in secret chemical warfare experiments.

They are being sprayed with a gas that pressurises tennis balls to see how it travels in the air.

And the findings will help deal with poison gas or biological attacks by al-Qaeda terrorists.

The tests in central London began in May and will continue until July - with more planned next year.

Labour's Tom Watson said: "We are preparing for a terrorist gas attack.

"We must be ready for anything but we need to keep people informed they are being involved."

Minister Tony Mc-Nulty insisted the tennis ball gas is harmless but said test results may be kept secret "for national security reasons".

MI5 has already foiled at least one al-Qaeda plot to spray the London Underground with deadly sarin gas.
