(AP) SAN FRANCISCO The U.S.-led war in Iraq has been raging for nearly all of 3-year-old Emerson Rabow's young life, and that's why his dad brought him out to hit the streets with more than a thousand other anti-war protesters Saturday.
"I think it's really important that kids know that adults can be wrong," said Michael Rabow, 41, a physician from Mill Valley who was also joined by his wife, Barbara, and their daughter Maya, 6, who carried a handwritten sign reading "Go Peace."
The San Francisco protest and similar demonstrations in Los Angeles and Sacramento came as tens of thousands converged on Washington, D.C., to press their cause with Congress and a country that has soured on the nearly 4-year-old conflict.
Other San Francisco protesters, eager to see Democrats take a strong stand against the war, felt it was important to proclaim their anti-war message in the home district of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who led a delegation to Iraq on Friday.
"We need a deadline" to withdrawal U.S. troops from Iraq, said Barbara Farrell, 58, of South San Francisco, who called on Pelosi to pass such a measure. "I think it should be this year."
Speakers at the San Francisco rally included Carolyn Ho, the mother of U.S. Army Lt. Ehren Watada, who is facing court martial in February for refusing to deploy to Iraq and speaking out publicly against the war.
